Why Antique Furniture Lighting is Important

If you are a collector of antique or even reproduction furniture, you may have neglected an important area of your collection -- the lighting. Antique furniture lighting can be just as rewarding to collect as the bigger pieces are. From every time period, you can find different types of lighting including lamps, lanterns, candleholders and more that can enhance your collection. Whether you are collecting antiques to resell later, or collecting them to use in your home, light fixtures are a perfect addition.

Many hardcore antiquers demand only real antiques for their collection. While real antiques certainly have plenty of charm and value, they aren't always the most practical. Unless you are in the antique business or you have plenty of money to throw around, you may want to consider reproduction pieces. There are all kinds of great reproductions that cover all kinds of time periods. Examples include Old English furniture, Chinese antique furniture, Victorian antique furniture, Tibetan antique furniture, and even Old Colony furniture. Within these categories you will find reproductions that encompass things like chairs, tables, beds, lamps and more.

A popular time period for collectors seeking vintage lighting is the 18th and 19th century. This is the time when the most selection was available. Many of the authentic antique pieces from this era are available although they have almost always been rewired for safe use today. You can find gorgeous antique lighting choices at many antique furniture centers and antique dealer shops. Even if you go with reproductions, you will find that the antique look adds distinct beauty to the interior or exterior of your home. Many people like the look of an old-timey lamp post to welcome evening guests or light their way home after a long day at work.

Antique furniture lighting is an integral part of any room filled with antiques. Suppose you've got a beautiful living room filled with incredible antique furniture. Let's say you have French antique furniture pieces. Do you want a modern lamp to light the room? Of course not -- you will want a French antique lighting fixture to illuminate the room properly. Since the beginning of time, people have required light in their homes. This is why you will find plenty of selection when you are shopping for antique lamps, lanterns, candle holders, torches and other fixtures from days gone by.
